Notes from Over 50/60 Manager’s meeting, April 13, 2010
14 of 16 teams from the Over 50 league were represented at this meeting, from the Over 60 league 4 of 6 were present.
No issues were brought up for the Over 60 league. Printed schedules were handed out.
For the Over 50 league, ten teams favored one large 16 team league, two favored two divisions with teams selected at random, and two favored two divisions with stronger teams all in the same division. Final decision is one large 16 team division
Printed schedules were handed out for the Over 50 league, identical to the Over 50 schedule which was emailed to managers on April 13. This will be the official schedule. Extra paper copies are available upon request.
League games begin April 26 for both leagues.
Managers unanimously agreed any team that has not yet submitted a roster by the first game will forfeit games until the roster is submitted. Changes can be made up to June 30.
Roster copies were handed out to each team with indications of players already having photocopies of driver’s licenses (DL’s) on file. Managers are asked to provide missing DL’s as soon as possible.
Several ideas were brought forth on how to deal with game situations involving rostered players who have not submitted a DL. Consensus was any challenge to a player’s eligibility should be made at the field, and if the player in question is shown to be on the roster (managers must have rosters at every game), that player must prove eligibility by showing his driver’s license at that time to avoid a forfeit, and send a photocopy to the commissioner if it is not already on file.
Majority of managers agreed that photocopies of driver’s licenses can be accepted even if the face is not legible, as long as name and date of birth are legible.
Majority of managers agreed that games should proceed even if the umpire does not show up on time. Volunteer umps such as field maintenance people have done a reasonably good job in the past, and this is preferable to rescheduling games, especially for those who drive a long distance for games. We will continue to report problems with umpires to the Park District.
Playoff structure is not yet finalized.
