Field #2 Memorial

There is a plaque on the backstop of field #2 in memory of Ron Bernardini (front center), who was instrumental in bringing organized sports to Elk Grove, most notably youth football and 16 inch softball. Elk Grove TV Channel 6 talks about Ron in a show named Exceptional Journey, a show which explains why certain parks and other spots are named after prominent individuals. Ron's part of the show can be seen about 17 minutes into the program. If you do not have access to Channel 6, see me to borrow a videotape or DVD.

I played for Ron's team for several years (Stowaways, that's me in the upper left), what a fun guy to play for, constant bantering and laughs. I did manage to get one compliment after playing a fairly good game, he bellowed in front of everybody "Joey you axxhole, you're not as dumb as you look, thank god." That was Bernie's idea of high praise. (Ya gotta love it.)
